The Bodum Ottoni Electric Water Kettle is an offshoot of the original Ottoni Stovetop Kettle initially produced by Bodum in 1986. The Electric Ottoni is fully automatic, providing all the comfort and advantages of an electric water kettle. In designing the Electric Ottoni, Bodum kept the playful post-modernistic look of the original stovetop version and utilized most of the material previously used, such as stainless, while adding a new handle made of plastic. To minimize energy consumption, the Ottoni's stainless steel heating element is concealed underneath a stainless steel plate to maximize the surface contact between the hot metal and the water. The auto shut-off feature insures that the Ottoni is switched off when the water boils or if the heating element overheats. This protects the kettle from hurt and indicates a high safety standard. Bodum has integrated a removable scale filter in the spout that retains calcium deposits and prevents water from being tainted.
