Nightmare Coffee Maker
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
Unfortunately we bought this coffee maker before reading the terrible reviews. We chose to give the machine a chance to prove itself & sad to say…it was as terrible or worse as all the other reviewers have already stated. The only conclusion that can be drawn from such a poorly designed caraffe & grinds leaking out of the filter is that Krupps never bothered to test their own product before sending it to the stores to sell. Certainly if their own test kitchen staff had tried to use this model at all…they would soon have encountered all the obvious defects & sent it back to the drawing board.
Very disappointed that Krupps who apparently has such a excellent name & claims to have a strong reputation & knowledge base in the coffee world…would present such a poorly designed product to the public.
I absolutely discourage anyone from buying this particular model as it just doens’t work.

Replacement carafe has arrived … and it works!
Rating:4 out of 5 stars
Had I read these reviews before buying this coffee maker, I would have stayed away ….. far away. But it looked excellent in the store, so I went for it. The dripping carafe is the largest problem. It’s really terrible. So I called Customer Support (1-800-526-5377) and I must say they were accommodating (must be getting a lot of calls on this one, or they’re simply blowing me off!). They took my name and address and said they would ship a redesigned replacement carafe when they become available at the end of December (apparently the carafe’s are in the process of being manufactured). I’ll wait and see. I like the look and feel of the machine and the coffee is fine, it just makes a mess when you pour. They did question if I had the receipt and if I had the machine in front of me (yes on the receipt, no on the machine as I’m at work). But, they did not question that I fax anything, unlike other reports I’ve read. So for now, I’ll pour over the sink and hope they keep their word.
My one concern is in regards to a company that would really manufacture and market a product that is obviously poorly designed to the point of being defective. Makes you wonder about the quality control for the rest of the unit. But if you own one of these, and can’t or don’t want to return it, call Customer Support, question for a new and improved carafe, and keep your fingers crossed.
Update Dec 18, 2009:
Right to their word, my new carafe arrived yesterday. Basically, they widened the spout and removed the baffle. Works perfectly. I’m pleased with the quick response, as I really want to like this machine. No other complaints, although the 2 stage timer advertised on the box would have been a nice addition, especially at this price. So I’m revising my rating from 1 star to 4. If you own one with the ancient style carafe, call customer service at the number above. The concern someone else mentioned about the removable tank eventually leaking is a possibility, I guess. Time will tell. In the meantime, I’m OK with it. -

Ditto…..

I concur with all of the other reviewers. The major problem with this coffee pot is the carafe. It is VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE to pour a cup of coffee without coffee running down the side of the carafe to then drip on your counter, clothes, or floor. I’m now forced to pour coffee over my sink every morning to catch the spills! Whoever designed a coffee carafe that can’t properly pour is a dim wit.
I did call customer service at 1-800-526-5377 and complained about the poor design. They stated that they have ‘re-designed’ the product and will send me a replacement if I fax them my sales receipt.
We’ll see…..I’ll update the post if a replacement is received, if you don’t see an update, assume total failure, (both on the coffee pot and on Krups’ Customer Service!).
The other potential problem is that they have designed the unit with a removable water tank. I guess the thought is that you remove the tank, bring it to the sink, fill it with water and then ‘re-seat’ the tank back into the coffee maker. Two issues here; my coffee maker sits under kitchen cabinets, so removing the tank means moving the entire unit, the other issue is that I envision that it is only a matter of time before the gasket the water tank sits on starts to leak as it wears down due to the daily wear-and-tear caused by removal and replacement of the tank. I chose to just leave the tank on the unit as removing it daily provides zero convenience.
Fantastic styling and simple to program…..but avoid at all costs…you have been warned!!!

Do not buy this.

Please, read the other reviews and believe what they say. This is a horrible machine. You absolutely cannot pour from it without spilling half of the coffee on your counter and the coffee that you can manage to get into your cup won’t even taste that fantastic. Krups was not at all helpful or even interested in correcting the problem when I contacted them to complain. Very disappointing, especially since I have several other Krups small kitchen appliances. Thankfully, MetroKitchen (where the machine was shipped from) was very helpful and we are now happily enjoying our Capresso replacement. -

Gorgeous but unusable

This is one fantastic looking coffee maker, but as others have already mentioned, it’s nearly impossible to pour a cup of coffee without getting half of it all over the counter, no matter how carefully and slowly you pour, regardless of whether the lid is opened or closed. It’s really a shame. If they come out with a revised spout on the carafe that really works properly, they’d have a really fantastic product. Our’s is going back to Bed, Bath and Beyond tomorrow… -

form over function

This coffeemaker looks fantastic, but when you pour your steamin hot cup of java, the carafe leaks all over the place. We called Krups and they said to return it because no replacement carafe is available. Smells like a recall to me. -

Do Not Buy This

After having this product for 1.5 months I have dealt with the leaky pouring and it is terrible as the other post mentions. I called Krups and they told me to pour slower and even doing that it still leaks. The unit has a tank on the back that is removable so you can take that to the tap and place your water in. The other week it started a steady drip of water which my solution was to place my finger over it when I carry it over from sink to coffee maker. That has turned into a full on pool of water under my coffee maker. It is pouring out water in the back on the machine. I now have to send it to Krups for repairs and it takes 3 weeks. This unit costs too much money to have basic issues as I am having. -

Krups had NO solution for problem
Rating:1 out of 5 stars
This coffeemaker was bought because of the Krups reputation. Boy were we disappointed! Even after spending $149+ for it, the carafe has the POOREST design I’ve ever seen! When I contacted Krups directly (it surely isn’t the retailer’s fault), their solution was “flip up the lid when pouring & pour slowly”. Can you believe that? This from the Manufacturer??? I really expected a more scientific response. Save your money and go past this coffeemaker! No matter how much coffee is in the carafe, you will end up losing a large amount down the front of the carafe while pouring a cup. We have been very disappointed and will NEVER again buy a Krups product. -

I returned it

I really wanted to like this pot, because of its looks and the fact that it did brew really excellent coffee. But it had annoying issues I could not get over. The carafe is designed like a dribble glass. Nomatter how careful we were, we could not pour from a full carafe or an nearly empty carafe without spilling. Second, while using coffee ground specifically for an electric drop pot, we found that the machine consistently made a mess when brewing a full pot – the grounds would overflow the basket & be pushed up through the steam vents on the top of the machine. Also the machine I received did not support the advertised 2 automatic settings feature, even though the Krups box listed this as well as the Amazon add. The manual did not list this feature and the simple and intuitive programming menu didn’t allow setting more than one start time.I was grateful for Amazon’s return policy, which made it simple to send this disappointing machine back.

The writer of electricteamaker.net has a superior website. I had no thought there were as many types of tea makers as are listed here. It is like the following universal truth that you can not disagree with: Bricks are horrible to carry. I will be back.
